Underdogs Brown’s Town ready to give their all

October 03, 2025

MATHEMATICALLY still in contention for the round of 32, head coach of Brown's Town High Tyrone Codner said the mentality going up against a tough Ocho Rios High team is to approach the game with no fear in today's ISSA daCosta Cup football match at Addison Park in St Ann at 3:30 p.m.

Zone K's unbeaten Ocho Rio have already booked their ticket to the second round, but Brown's Town High aim to get there and in doing so create an upset.

"Mentality wise we have nothing to lose, we can only gain. We are going to go out there and give our heart and see what happens," Codner said.

"The main thing is to get them to get there and believe because most of the time, that's what it is all about," added Codner, who emphasised the importance of belief and teamwork.

In their last matchup, Ocho Rios showed no mercy with a 6-0 whipping to Brown's Town.

Having played four games in the last seven days, Brown's Town's players have been recovering, according to Codner.

"To be honest, we haven't been able to do much. The main thing now is to let them recover, (there is) not much we can do on the training field at this point in time," Codner said, noting that mathematically the team still has a chance.

Zone toppers Ocho Rios are on 24 points, while Brown's Town are third with 13 points, below second-place York Castle on 16 points.

In Hanover, Zone B's former champions Rusea's High matchup with Green Island High at the Collin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea at 3:30 p.m.

Their last encounter ended in a 1-1 draw at Green Island. Both will try to separate themselves to draw nearer to advancing.

Top-of-the table Rusea's are on 18 points, while Frome and Cambridge are tied on 14 for second and third, respectively, and Green Island on 11 points in fourth.

On Saturday, 24 games are set to be played and one that sticks out is a fiery clash when Maldon High and giants of the Zone A, Cornwall College, at Maldon playing field at 3:30 p.m.

Cornwall sit on top with 22 points, followed by Maldon (16), Herbert Morrison (12) and St James High (10).

In their first meeting this season, Cornwall clipped Maldon 1-0.

After another painful 1-0 defeat by Herbert Morrison Technical High on Tuesday, Maldon will need the very best of Javaughn Anglin to help secure a victory in a must-win game.
