Fraser-Pryce mines 17th medal in final World Championships

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce made a wet, yet wonderful exit from big-time international athletics with a lead-off leg which spurred her colleagues onto a memorable silver medal in the women's 4x100-metre relay at the 20th World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Sprinting legend Fraser-Pryce disregarded the horrendously rainy conditions, smiling and waving her way through the introductions, before rocketing away around the opening bend to hand over to Jamaica's individual silver medallist Tia Clayton.

Clayton and twin sister Tina could do little to stop the American quartet edge the back straight and final turn before Jonielle Smith ran a sensational final leg to come perilously close to pipping former world champion Sha'Carri Richardson for gold in a breathtaking finish.

The Jamaican quartet ran a season's best 41.79 seconds, while the Americans pipped them with 41.75.

Fraser-Pryce will finish her glittering career with an incredible total of 17 World Championship medals: 10 gold, six silver and a bronze.
