Masicka ready to ‘Forever Reign’

Jamaican dancehall star Masicka is set to usher in a new chapter of his career with the release of his third studio album, ‘Forever Reign’.
The release of the project on Friday comes at a significant point in Masicka’s career. He is scheduled to headline a major performance at Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday.
With Forever Reign, Masicka says he is focused on longevity and maintaining his place in the music landscape.
“Forever Reign means I’m here to stay,” the artiste said.
 “Yes, there’s room for everyone, but my lane is carved out, and we’re going to soak up the space,” Masicka reasoned. “The most important thing is to stay humble and focused.”
The 17-track project, distributed by Def Jam Recordings, finds the artiste reflecting on faith, survival, ambition, loyalty, success and the sacrifices that have shaped his journey, while reinforcing his position as one of contemporary dancehall’s most distinctive voices.
Born Javaun Fearon, Masicka has built a global following through intricate lyricism, vivid storytelling and his ability to move between hard-hitting dancehall anthems and more introspective material. His career reached another level after the success of his debut album, 438, led to his signing with Def Jam Recordings. He subsequently released Generation of Kings, expanding his international reach and cementing his reputation as a leading voice of his generation.
The album opens with 1 Psalm, a collaboration with reggae heavyweight Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley. The spiritually charged track sets the tone for a project that repeatedly returns to themes of faith, perseverance and purpose. Masicka describes the song as both a prayer and a reminder to seek divine guidance, protection and forgiveness while navigating life’s challenges.
“One prayer a day. If we can pray and ask God to forgive us for our sins and protect us, then we’re good,” Masicka said.
The collaboration with Marley also brings together two generations of Jamaican music, with 1 Psalm blending Masicka’s contemporary dancehall perspective with Marley’s established reggae presence.
From there, Forever Reign moves across a range of moods and subjects. Oak Tree, Pointless, Shakazulu, Spend, Good, and Slip and Slide showcase Masicka’s lyrical versatility, while G Wagon, featuring Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez, extends the album’s international reach.
Dancehall newcomer Kraff Gad joins Masicka on Honor Roll, a collaboration that the veteran artiste says reflects the hunger he sees in the younger generation.
“His style is different, and he reminds me of myself when I was coming up and hungry,” Masicka said. “All of the young youths are bad, and I respect anybody brave enough to embark on this journey. I never had any doubt he was going to shell down this record.”
The album continues with Boasty, Cross the Waters, Wicked Spell, It’s Not Too Late, AK Fire, Time and Place and Breaking Chain, before closing with Parables, featuring reggae singer Lila Iké.
The project also boasts an impressive production roster, including long-time collaborator Mario ‘Dunw3ll’ Dunwell, Dre Skull, Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor, Supa Dups, IzyBeats, Dready, Telz and Razzy, among others.
