Portmore extend unbeaten run with win at Arnett
Portmore United defeated Arnett Gardens 2-0 to rejoin Racing United on 42 points and retake third spot in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) standings.
Dunsting Cohen scored the first goal three minutes into the second half and Orlando Russell sealed the win in added time, as Portmore secured their second straight win and stretched their unbeaten run to nine games.
Portmore's head coach Rodolph Austin said it was a big ask to defeat an in-form Arnett on their home ground, but they answered.
"It's a tough place to come and play. They have been gathering some momentum and to come and get the three points was a very big ask," he said.
Portmore were the first to threaten when McGregor hit the bar from three yards off Renaldo Robinson's cross in the 23rd minute.
Arnett's Fabian Reid responded by forcing a good save from goalkeeper Daniel Russell, with a vicious volley from inside the area minutes later.
Then moments before the break, Marques Reid's great volley was denied by an excellent stop by goalkeeper Anthony Bennett from close range. Then from the same play, McGregor headed over from inside the box.
Three minutes into the second half Portmore went ahead when Cohen found space to head home a corner from 12 yards.
In the 76th minute, Cohen had a great chance to add a second, but could not get over the ball to keep his header on target.
The result meant Arnett failed to get back into the top six and are seventh with 30 points.
Arnett's head coach Philip Williams said it was a tough game.
"Tonight was a difficult game for us. Going forward Portmore gave us little room and we had less space to create chances," he said.
