Hurricane Michael turns deadly
A Greensboro man was the first victim of Hurricane Michael in Florida yesterday afternoon, after officials said a tree crashed through the roof of his house.
Florida Governor Rick Scott also said yesterday that search and rescue teams were heading into the state's hardest-hit areas to help survivors after the hurricane slammed into Florida at nearly category five strength.
It is the strongest hurricane on record to hit the Florida Panhandle (an informal term for the northwestern part of the US state).
Scott held a news conference Wednesday evening and urged people to stay off roads and leave them open to first responders as they begin the work of search and rescue and recovery.
Late yesterday the hurricane moved on to the neighbouring state of Georgia.
Here are pictures of the disaster.
